Dr. S. Sita Jayalakshmi

Leading Comprehensive Epilepsy Care

Dr. S. Sita Jayalakshmi is a Senior Consultant Neurologist at KIMS Neuroscience and one of India's most distinguished clinical epileptologists. She holds a DM in Neurology from the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, and has 28 years of experience as a neurologist — first at NIMS (as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Additional Professor of Neurology from 1997 to 2010) and then at KIMS from 2010, where she co-ordinates the comprehensive epilepsy surgery care programme.

She has been a DM Neurology teacher for over 20 years and is the in-charge of the post-doctoral epilepsy fellowship programme at KIMS, which trains neurologists who now practise at major centres across India. She is a PhD guide for students pursuing the post-doctoral course in neurology by NTR University of Health Sciences. She has more than 160 publications in national and international journals, has contributed chapters to neuroscience textbooks, and serves on the editorial boards of Neurology India and the Annals of the Indian Academy of Neurology.

Among her international recognitions: the 2023 AB Baker Teacher Recognition Award from the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), awarded at Boston to neurologists who have made outstanding contributions to neurology education; the Japanese Society of Child Neurology (JSCN) Award for Excellent Paper, Tokyo (2012); the Master Teacher Award from the Institute of Neurology, Chennai (2021); and the ASIA GCC Women Health Care Excellence Award in Neurology (2021). She received the Fellow of the Indian Academy of Neurology (FIAN) in 2017 and the Eenadu Gold Medal for best outgoing student in Neurology at NIMS (1994–96). She is currently the Treasurer of the Indian Epilepsy Society and CME Convenor of the Indian Academy of Neurology.
