About These Treatments

A Treatments Library, Written for Patients

A new diagnosis often comes with a recommended procedure — and a list of unanswered questions. What does the surgery involve? What are the alternatives? What does recovery look like? This library exists so patients and families can read about the treatment in advance, in plain English, and arrive at the consultation with the right questions.

Each treatment page explains what the procedure is and who it is for, how it is performed at KIMS, what the day of surgery looks like, what to expect during recovery, and which alternatives — medical, radiosurgical, or surgical — were considered. Where a treatment behaves differently in India or requires specific scheme or insurance access, we say so.

Pick the programme below that matches your diagnosis or the procedure your doctor has mentioned. Each programme page introduces the family of procedures and links to detailed sub-pages. For emergencies, call the 24-hour line. For appointments, no referral is needed.

Key Facts

About the KIMS Treatments Library

How the programmes are structured, the technology behind them, and how to access care at KIMS Neuroscience.

Eight treatment programmes

Brain tumour surgery, cerebrovascular surgery, functional neurosurgery, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, MRgFUS, neuronavigation & robotics, paediatric neurosurgery, and spine surgery — under one roof at KIMS Neuroscience.

Technology-led surgery

Stealth AutoGuide robotic stereotaxy (first in India), 5-ALA fluorescence, intraoperative MRI and ultrasound, neuronavigation, DTI fibre tracking, and awake-craniotomy mapping for tumours in eloquent cortex.

Multidisciplinary tumour boards

Every brain tumour, complex vascular lesion, and functional neurosurgery candidate is reviewed by a board of neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, neuro-radiologists, and rehabilitation specialists before a treatment plan is finalised.

Written for patients

Every treatment page explains in plain English what the procedure is, who it is for, what to expect on the day, recovery timelines, and the alternatives — not a textbook for clinicians.

Access and affordability

Insurance pre-authorisation, government scheme support, and Patient Assistance Programmes for high-cost therapies. No referral required for an outpatient appointment.

Cerebrovascular Surgery

Microsurgical clipping and endovascular coiling for aneurysms, AVM resection, bypass surgery, and combined open/endovascular procedures for complex cerebrovascular disease.

Explore programme →
Functional Neurosurgery

Deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's, tremor, and dystonia; epilepsy surgery including resective and neuromodulation procedures; microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm.

Explore programme →
Gamma Knife Radiosurgery

Non-invasive stereotactic radiosurgery for brain metastases, meningiomas, acoustic neuromas, AVMs, trigeminal neuralgia, and selected pituitary tumours — a single-session, frame-based outpatient procedure.

Explore programme →
MR-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS)

Incision-free treatment for essential tremor and tremor-dominant Parkinson's disease. Real-time MRI guidance, no implants, no anaesthesia — patients walk out the same day with measurable tremor reduction.

Explore programme →
Neuronavigation & Robotics

Stealth AutoGuide robotic cranial guidance (first in India at KIMS), real-time brain mapping, DTI fibre tracking, and image-guided surgery for maximal safe resection in eloquent cortex.

Explore programme →
Paediatric Neurosurgery

Hydrocephalus and shunt surgery, craniosynostosis correction, paediatric brain tumours, congenital malformations, and spinal dysraphism — managed by a dedicated paediatric neurosurgery and rehabilitation team.

Explore programme →
Spine Surgery

Minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery, artificial disc replacement, spinal fusion, and complex spinal reconstruction for degenerative, traumatic, and tumour-related spine conditions.

When to Act

When Symptoms Warrant Emergency Care

Several neurosurgical conditions are time-critical — minutes and hours decide whether tissue, function, or life is saved. The list on the right is not exhaustive, but each item warrants an immediate call to the KIMS Emergency line — not a wait-and-see at home.

For elective surgical consultations or a second opinion on a recommended procedure, use the appointment line and bring prior imaging — it will help the consultation be more useful.

Call Emergency: 040-46324365

Sudden weakness, numbness, or paralysis on one side of the face, arm, or leg (FAST signs of stroke)

Sudden severe headache — the worst headache of your life — with or without vomiting (possible subarachnoid haemorrhage)

Head injury with loss of consciousness, repeated vomiting, confusion, or unequal pupils

Acute spinal cord injury — sudden weakness or numbness of the legs, loss of bladder or bowel control, or saddle anaesthesia

Pituitary apoplexy — sudden severe headache, vision loss, and altered consciousness in a patient with a known pituitary tumour

Hydrocephalus crisis — rapidly worsening headache, vomiting, and drowsiness in a patient with a shunt

Status epilepticus — a seizure lasting more than 5 minutes, or repeated seizures without recovery between them

Specialist Care

How KIMS Neuroscience Delivers These Treatments

KIMS Neuroscience, Secunderabad, is one of South India's largest dedicated neuroscience centres — bringing together neurosurgery, neurology, neuro-interventional radiology, radiation oncology, sleep medicine, neurorehabilitation, and paediatric neurology under one roof.

The surgical platform includes the Stealth AutoGuide robotic cranial guidance system (first in India), 5-ALA fluorescence for glioma surgery, MRgFUS for incision-free tremor treatment, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, awake-craniotomy mapping, and a dedicated neuro-ICU. Every complex case is reviewed by a multidisciplinary tumour board or programme committee.

Where high-cost devices or therapies — DBS systems, MRgFUS treatment, biologics — are required, the KIMS team supports patients with Patient Assistance Programme applications, insurance pre-authorisation, and government scheme access. No patient with a clear surgical indication should be denied access without all funding options being explored.

Every treatment page in this library reflects the way the procedure is actually performed at KIMS — not a generic textbook description. If a page says “at KIMS” about a specific device or technique, that means it is available here.
